Project Portland
For anyone who has ever wanted to change the world, make history or better the life of another. This is the week for you. Project Portland is our week long missions trip to our city. During this time you will feed + clothe the homeless, serve in various capacities at different cause orientated organizations, wash the feet of your friends, become more like Jesus, eat amazing omelets + soak up the sun + sand @ the beach. It is a week that will change your life, a time that you will never forget. June 22-28, 2008.

the vision
The vision came one afternoon to a college student at his apartment in Southern California. One afternoon as he was praying on the floor of his bedroom, God revealed to him a picture of a WWII fighter pilot that had been hit and was rapidly descending to his death. The last cry that came from his lips was mayday, mayday. As soon as the vision began, it ended. The student, still completely baffled began to search the scriptures and came to 2 Chronicles 7:14 which states: “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” After hearing these words, and seeing this picture, this student felt led to help start this movement called Mayday.

The vision for mayday is to be a gathering, a movement of students, from different backgrounds, different cultures, different styles, with one common passion, one common lifestyle, and one common vision. This passion is Jesus. To love and to serve no matter what it entails. This lifestyle can be defined as Holy. To be real and relevant, yet pure and true. And finally, this common vision is to see this emerging generation discover and develop a relationship with Christ. We believe that the greatest way we can do this is through prayer. This is the Mayday Movement and this what we are living for.

the movement
Mayday is not your typical church youth group. There are no clubs, cliques, or color lines just commonality. If you can breathe, then you are welcome and you are wanted. You might not be too down with the whole church thing, that’s ok, most of us were not either. In fact, that is one of the reasons that we started Mayday: we wanted to create a gathering where Jesus is the focus but where it was ok to talk about things like sex, cutting, and drugs without fear of judgment or rejection. We know that it is ridiculously hard being a teenager and our desire is to love, support and guide just like Jesus.

the gathering
The gathering takes place every Wednesday night with services created specifically for you. The Social begins 30 minutes [6pm –middle school, 645 – high school] before every service with Guitar Hero, Wii, places to chill with your friends and rad music. The services begin @ 630 for middle school and 715 for high school, followed by more of The Social but this time around, there is food.
